🏃🏼‍♂️ Ben Chonzie half marathon, October 2020

Early solo van trip 3/3

In order to get fit for ski touring, I wanted to do a long run (half marathon) that included a Munro (Scottish hill over 3,000ft). Originally I was looking at Ben Lomond but there were covid travel restrictions there so settled on Ben Chonzie instead (pronounced Ben-y Hone). Mapped out a big loop round Loch Turret that included Ben Chonzie summit. Drove up on Friday night. Called in at a friend's house in Edinburgh on the way to borrow a drone. Slept in Loch Turret car park with a couple of other vans. Extremely heavy rain and wind during the night. Calmer weather the next day so went ahead with my run. Off paths for some of it with low visibility but fine following the map. Bit of a scramble up to the summit. Chatted to two friendly hikers on the summit. After the run headed back out to do some more filming. Stayed in the same place for Saturday night too. On Sunday drove back down to Edinburgh to return the drone. Met up with my friend at the Midlothian Snowsports Centre for a cuppa and van tour. Hired skis to practice parallel turns on the dry slope. Legs were quite weary! Drove home afterwards.
