🏔 Cairngorms, May 2021
Trip to Scotland to see Ben and climb Ben Macdui - the second highest mountain in Scotland (and indeed the UK). Drove to Ben's in Nairn on Friday. Then to Cairngorm Mountain Upper Car Park on Saturday. Hike Ben Macdui, setting off in blazing sunshine and finding ~6 inches of snow on the plateau. Chose safe routes across snowfields to minimise avi risk. Camped in the van at Loch an Eilein. Did a comically bad sketch of Ben. "Draw me like one of your French girls!" 😆 No rubber handy so just kept drawing more lines. I've been nervous of drawing people so was good to break the ice. Spent Sunday by the loch: reading in hammocks, slacklining, swam to the castle on the island and tried SUP for the first time which was good fun! Back to Nairn for Sunday night. On Monday went to see Ben's new house (under construction) and went for a walk along the sea front at Nairn then drove home in the evening. Scotland is magnificent. Great to catch up with Ben. A very wholesome weekend.
