⛷ Ski touring Northumberland, Winter 2020-2021

In 2020 I realised that the adventure factor of ski touring appealed a lot! There were a few hurdles to overcome: I'm not a good skier, lack of equipment and covid/travel restrictions. For most of 2020 I was living with my parents in Northumberland. My dad has a pair of cross country skis. And Winter 2020 saw the best snow in Northumberland in living memory. Over the course of the winter I got out on skis on nine different days which is miraculous. We also borrowed a pair of skis (with leather boots) from a local ski club so we could go touring together. Touring in Northumberland is mostly fairly flat and along footpaths, forest trails and over moorland. Given my basic ability it's lucky there aren't many downhill powder runs - that's for another season!
